This review of the Lovens Explorer 65 auto is the first I publish here at Velocletta.com. As an e-bike mechanic, I had the privilege that the company I work for received one of the first demo bikes that are available. And because a new competitor on the market can use some attention I thought this was a good moment to publish my first review.
The family cargo e-bikes are a growing market, not only in the Netherlands but in many countries in the world. Families in big cities can no longer afford a car, have problems finding affordable parking solutions, or are stuck in traffic to bring kids to school. A family cargo bike, especially an electric one, can help them with the transportation of children and or other cargo.
The Dutch market is dominated by Urban Arrow for a while. So it’s time that real competitors are getting a chance to prove themselves. Last year new players entered this e-bike segment but didn’t have the strength to be a serious competitor against Urban Arrow. Carqon had upstart problems with the production and so was Gazelle with their Makki. Riese & Müller Packster 70 makes beautiful cargo e-bikes but is more expensive. This year Lovens introduced the Explorer that has the potential to become a gamechanger.
