The Ultra Helmet goes further than just protection for your head. With integrated LED lighting and turn signals that you also can connect via your Android or iOS app and Apple Watch this helmet is more than just protection.
Smart Bicycle Helmet
Manufacturer Lumos started in 2015 with a crowdfunding campaign to develop their first helmet with integrate LED lighting. The Kickstarter helmet, as they called it, was sold more than a 100,000 times. Because the first crowdfunding campaign was a succes, therefor Lumos started in. May 2020 a new campaign. This time the campaign is set up to fund the next generation of helmets. That generation bicycle helmets has connectivity thru an Android or iOS app and Apple Watch, but also has a stand-alone remote to add on the handlebar of your bicycle.
The Ultra helmet has a 1100mAh rechargeable battery inside that will last up to 10 hours with the lights set on maximum brightness. Therefor will it weigh about 370 grams (13 oz) This bicycle helmet will come with a universal USB-C charging cable.
When the Ultra is available on the market you can choose between thee different sizes:
- Small (S): 51-55 cm / 20-21.6 in
- Medium to Large (M-L): 54-61 cm / 21.3-24 in
- Extra Large (XL): 61-65 cm / 24-25.6 in
There is a normal and MIPS version of the Ultra helmet. MIPS stands for Multi-Impact Protection System, it is a helmet-integrated brain protection system. If you want te learn more about MIPS, have a look at their site.
Availability Ultra helmet
The manufacturer is still in the prototype fase of the Ultra helmet. They are aiming for starting of the shipment in Oktober 2020. It will deliver all crowdfund backers their helmet before April 2021. The price of for the standard Lumos Ultra Helmet is $84 USD (€71 EUR) a helmet with MIPS costs $118 USD (€99 EUR).
