DutchFiets made a bicycle from recyclable plastic. Yes, you read it correctly, a bike made from recyclable plastic. Another innovation bicycle company that brings mobility with a different approach.
Different approach
DutchFiets, Fiets is the Dutch word for bicycle, has a different approach. With a crowdfunding campaign they started in 2016 with the first models. DutchFiets has designed a 100% recyclable unibody and wheels bicycle. But it’s not only about the frame and wheels. Sella Italia developed a net saddle made from recycled materials. With a hub dynamo the head and tail are powered. The two gear system from Sturmey-Archer, the S2C, doesn’t use cables, with a kickback mechanism you can shift gears. Although the DutchFiets has gears it isn’t much of a bicycle to climb the mountains.
Dutch bicycle manufactures
In The Netherlands there are quite a view bicycle manufactures especially for the small country as we are. Amsterdam based Mokumono make the Delta-S with a new production process. But also in Amsterdam based Van Moof is conquering the world with their e-bikes. And so is DutchID. On the cargo side of bicycles we have Urban Arrow, Babboe and Carqon that are based in The Netherlands.
What DutchFiets brings on the table is that they have a young founder, Johannes Alderse Baas a student who become a climate entrepreneur and ceo. Someone with a clear vision on circular economy and sustainable products.
Availability of the recyclable plastic bicycle
The DutchFiets 3.0 is available in multiple colours and has a price of € 1195,00 euro and can be ordered via the webshop of the company.
