The new Canyon Aeroad road bike is developed with F1 technology and windtunnel expertise. Faster, stiffer and lighter, those are the main improvement of the Aeroad road bike family. A family of 10, starting with the Aeroad CF SL 7 via the Aeroad CFR Disc EPS to a Aeroad CFR Disc Frameset there is a lot to choose in.
F1 technology and engineers
Swiss Side a company made up of former Sauber Formula One engineers know how to read the Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis. Just like in Formula 1, new shapes are first tested with powerful CFD software that requires supercomputers to process.
After months of running different test loops with thousands of variables, Canyon and Swiss Side had a solid idea of which forms will be fastest in the real world.
In Wind Tunnel
Of course, bikes don’t ride around by themselves in the real world. A rider’s legs have a significant impact on air moving across the frame. It’s essential however that the dummy is as light as possible so as to provide the most uninterrupted readings.
Ferdi, a superlight, one-off carbon fibre leg dummy, was built by Canyon engineers specifically with this purpose in mind. In the wind tunnel they gather results from three different scenario – bike on its own, bike with our leg dummy, Ferdi, and bike with Ferdi and two water bottles. The results of those tests are the following:
- Bike alone measured an improvement of -7.4 w
- With Ferdi measured an improvement of -4.4 w
- With Ferdi and 2 bottles measured an improvement of -5.4 w
Canyon Aeroad CFR SLX
CFR stands for Canyon Factory Racing, and is a selection of bikes built for pro athletes. The entire Aeroad CFR carbon frameset weighs in at 1,752 grams. That’s a 238 gram saving over the previous generation’s.
The new Canyon CP0018 Aerocockpit has a complete cable and wire integration. And with single-tool adjustable height and width. The lightweight carbon seatpost gives you extra aero gains, thanks to its aerodynamically optimised tube profile.
Configurations
The Canyon Aeroad is available in several configurations. A Shimano 105 set is available. Second the Shimano Ultegra and third Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 set. But also available a DT Swiss ARC and a Campagnolo Super Record EPS.
Price and availability
The Canyon Aeroad road bike starts at € 2.699,00 euro the CFR disc version starts at €8.999,00 euro. Via canyon.com can you check what roughly the availability is, or go to your local bike store.
